Maligaon: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken a significant step towards digitalization by equipping 588 booking counters across its five divisions with QR code machines.
The five divisions of the NF Railway are Katihar and Alipurduar in West Bengal and Rangiya, Lumding, and Tinsukia in Assam.
This initiative aims to reduce long queues at ticket counters, especially during the festive rush, and promote cashless transactions, the NF Railway said in a statement.
With the festive season in full swing, NF Railway has introduced several special trains to accommodate the increased passenger demand.
The availability of QR code machines at booking counters will enable passengers to avoid lengthy queues and opt for faster digital payment methods. This will not only enhance passenger convenience but also align with safety protocols by minimizing cash handling, the statement added.
Passengers can now book tickets through various digital platforms and scan the QR code at the station to obtain their tickets without physical interaction. This move is expected to significantly reduce queues and provide a faster and more secure ticketing process.
NF Railway previously implemented mobile app-based ticketing systems through the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app. This app allows passengers to book unreserved tickets from their smartphones, further enhancing convenience.
By adopting these digital initiatives, NF Railway is aligning with the ‘Digital India’ vision, promoting cashless transactions and improving the overall customer experience.
