Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) apprehended one gold smuggler carrying three gold biscuits weighing approximately 498 grams worth Rs 14.94 lakh at Permanent Vehicle Check Post (PVCP), Khudengthabi in Manipur.
The PVCP of the Assam Rifles is located at the Khudengthabi post of the para-military force, about 100 km south of Imphal along the busy Imphal-Moreh highway under Tengnoupal district.
“On July 8, 2018, at around 5.45 pm, based on specific input received from reliable source regarding smuggling of gold from Moreh to Imphal, a silver coloured Maruti van (MN 04A 0266) was stopped for checking at PVCP, Khudengthabi,” stated PRO of Assam Rifles (South) in a press release on Monday.
“While frisking and carrying out thorough checking of the baggage, 3 gold biscuits were found inside the personal clothing of one of the passengers,” the AR spokesperson stated.
A minor boy, aged about 15 years, who is a resident of Lilong Khunou in Thoubal district of Manipur was also caught for being involved in smuggling of gold. The recovered gold biscuits along with the apprehended persons were handed over to the Customs Preventive Force stationed at Moreh town, the release added.
On June 25 evening, Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles also apprehended one gold smuggler carrying 20 gold bars weighing 3.316 kg worth Rs 1 crore while checking a Maruti van at PVCP, Khudengthabi under Tengnoupal district in Manipur.
