Agartala: In a crackdown on cross-border human trafficking, Tripura Police detained five suspected Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian facilitator in the Nandan Nagar area of Agartala on Tuesday.

The operation, led by the New Capital Complex Police Station, was initiated after receiving intelligence about the illegal presence of foreign nationals in the city.

The officer said, “During the initial questioning, they tried to evade the truth, but further investigation revealed Bangladeshi currency in their possession, which they failed to account for.”

The detainees were unable to produce valid documents to support their stay in India and eventually confessed to crossing the border illegally, the police stated.

Alongside them, the police also apprehended Ishan Ali, an Indian national from Murshidabad, West Bengal, who is believed to have orchestrated their illegal entry.
