Assam Manipur: Two minors die after drowning in Churachandpur

AIZAWL: At least 42 people have been killed in various natural calamities across Mizoram since January this year.

During the two-day assembly session concluded last week, Mizoram disaster management and rehabilitation minister K Sapdanga informed the assembly that a total of 42 people have been killed in natural calamities between January and 12 August.

Aizawl district recorded the highest number of deaths at 39, followed by Mamit district (2) and one person died in southernmost Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district, he said.

Among the 42 victims, 34 people, including 8 outsiders, were killed in landslides in state capital region Aizawl between May 27 and 28.

Sapdanga said that the Mizoram government has paid ex-gratia amounting to Rs 4 lakh to each of the next of kins of the deceased.
