AIZAWL: Authorities in Mizoram have arrested nearly 2400 individuals in connection with drug and alcohol-related offenses since the beginning of the year.

The arrests include 283 individuals detained under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, primarily for smuggling heroin.

Additionally, 1956 people were apprehended under the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition (MLP) Act, 2019, for activities such as consuming, manufacturing, or selling alcohol.

Another 152 individuals were arrested under the Mizoram Excise Act, 1973, for various alcohol-related offenses.

Mizoram excise department reported the seizure of 13.7 kilograms of heroin since January.

Other items confiscated during this period include 38 kilograms of ganja, 5.8 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets, 17,713 liters of country-made liquor, 8658 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), 69 bottles of foreign-made liquor and 3999 cans of beer.
