Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday laid out an ambitious plan to drastically improve the state’s government schools, prioritizing quality over quantity.

Expressing deep concern over the current state of education in government institutions, Khandu announced a comprehensive reform initiative to be rolled out early next year.

Addressing the concluding session of the ‘Chintan Shivir cum Education Conclave-2024’, the Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the process of developing a roadmap for each government school in the state.

Deputy Commissioners and Deputy Directors of School Education have been tasked with completing these roadmaps by September 15.

“We aim to transform government schools into institutions that parents aspire for their children,” Khandu declared. He emphasized the need to align the state’s education system with the National Education Policy (NEP) by 2030, calling for a concerted effort to bridge the gap.

Khandu expressed frustration over the disparity in education quality between government and private schools despite comparable teacher salaries. He vowed to change this narrative, setting a goal for government schools to become the preferred choice for all, regardless of social or economic background.

The Chief Minister stressed strict adherence to the reform timeline, calling upon elected representatives, Panchayat leaders, and education officials to work collaboratively to achieve the desired transformation.
