Sampoornata Abhiyan launched in Dhemaji district

Dhemaji: NITI Aayog’s Sampoornata Abhiyan for the Dhemaji district was launched at Murkongselek (Jonai) block, which was an aspirational block among five blocks in the district.

The Aayog’s senior consultant Dr Babita Singh launched the Abhiyan in the presence of Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu, District Commissioner (DC) Ankur Bharali, district officials, PRI leaders and community members.

Addressing the participants, Dr Singh spoke on the significance of the Sampoornata Abhiyan and its alignment with national development goals.

She asked the officers, officials and elected leaders of the district to go on targets and fulfill all shortfalls in the development parameters during the initiative.

Addressing the participants, Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu said that infrastructure development like roads and bridges doesn’t indicate the overall development of an area.

“Development of the educational institutions, development of women and child health, and economic enhancement of the rural farmers are a vital key to the development of the area”, Pegu said.

The MLA also put emphasis on the up-gradation of the medical health centres through a convergent scheme and asked the elected leaders to take up a joint venture in this regard.

Dhemaji DC Akur Bharali informed that NITI Aayog (earlier known as Planning Commission) has selected 500 development blocks across the country as ‘aspirational blocks’ and placed the name of Murkongselek (Jonai) block under the district at 57.

Stating that every block in the district has to aspire to attain the maximum level of development, DC Bharali instructed officials of agriculture, health, Women & Child development, and education departments to conduct regular programs and fulfill the peoples’ needs during the three-month Abhiyan period.

The DC also administered the Sampoornata Abhiyan pledge to the gathering.

Among other dignitaries, DDC Bishwajit Phukan, Jonai ADC(i/c)  Shantanu Gogoi, chairman of District Development Authority Tulan Knowar, State Women Commission member Rupa Kaman, chairman of Dhemaji and Silapathar Municipal Councils and HoDs were present in the launching programme.

A short film prepared on the initiative was also screened on the occasion.

The staff of medical health conducted free health checkups, while Anganwadi workers and women SHGs organized exhibitions of their farm products to mark the launch programme.
