The erosion has heightened fears among the villagers, already grappling with the impact of the floods.
In response to previous erosion, the Assam government’s water resources department constructed a geo-bag dam last year to control the river’s impact.
However, the current erosion has compromised the geo-bag dam, further escalating the crisis.
Residents of Alengamari have urgently called on Assam government to take action to reinforce and control the embankments.
