Another sex racket was busted in Guwahati and this time by the Noonmati Police in Urminagar area at Noonmati on Friday night. Two men and three women were caught red-handed during the operation.

According to police, acting on a tip-off, the operation was conducted at around 9:30 pm.

Police sources said, “On a tip-off, a police team, led by officer-in-charge of Noonmati Police Station, Chidananda Borah, launched the operation in the area at around 9.30 pm and was able to nab a total of 5 persons including two men and three women from a rented house owned by one Kamal Das in Urminagar area at Noonmati.”

Talking to Northeast Now, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Noonmati Division, Purabi Mazumdar said, “Some locals informed me over the telephone and I immediately directed the officer-in-charge of Noonmati Police Station, to rush to the spot with a team and arrested five persons for being involved in flesh trade.”

The two men arrested on the spot have been identified as Ganesh Baishya and Abhay Kumar Giri.

According to police, Abhay Kumar Giri was the pimp and Ganesh Baishya was running the racket for a long time in the area.

A case (No 359/18) has been registered under sections 3 and 4 of the Immoral Trafficking Act.

It may be mentioned that the Crime Branch of Assam Police during a raid conducted at Infinity Spa Unisex Salon near KFC at Guwahati’s Paltan Bazar area on June 7 last busted a sex racket.

The police arrested the owner of the spa salon, Ashu Singh along with 10 girls and three youths in that connection. Police also seized some objectionable items, mobile phones and documents. As per reports, the Crime Branch sleuths pretended to be customers during the raid.
