Darrang BJP on Tuesday evening highlighted before media a slew of ongoing welfare schemes undertaken by the Centre during the past four years.

This came as a mark of completion of four years of Modi-led government at the Centre. A brief account of the developmental activities initiated by Sarabananda Sonowal-led government in the state was also highlighted before media as part of reach out programme.

Addressing media at Mangaldai, BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia spelled out the ongoing public utility schemes of the Central as well as the state government with special reference to the Darrang district.

He pointed out construction of 299 km road connecting rural areas in Darrang including 36 permanent bridges, free LPG connection to 70,626 BPL beneficiaries, distribution of identity cards to 17,726 families for rice at subsidized rate under AAY among prominent welfare schemes being implemented in the district.

Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das highlighted construction of Jayanta Hazarika memorial new park along Borpukhuri in the heart of Mangaldai town, construction of road cum drain at ward no-4 of Mangaldai and ongoing Rs 4.66 crore geo bag erosion protection works covering a length of one kilometer at Chereng Chapori as three top achievements of his two year tenure. He also highlighted construction of drainage system and reconstruction of the NH -15 around Mangaldai , laying of foundation stone of the proposed level three standard cancer care centre and proposed Skill City at Mangaldai with a cost of Rs 900 crore as few of his achievements and future planning .

However he could not give satisfactory answers to the queries on functioning of the abandoned Rs 70 crore one hundred bedded Maternity and Child Health Hospital of Mangaldai Civil Hospital and the Industrial Training Institution (ITI)  at Gerimari. Both the projects were completed two years ago.

Several other party leaders including district president Nilima Devi , general secretaries Sewali Goswami Kalita and Mokunda Deka , Mangaldai Municipal Chairman Pratap Bordoloi , in charge of its district legal cell Sailendra Sarma Barua and Convener  Media Cell Amar Sarma among others were present on the occasion.
