Dibrugarh: A leopard that had been causing widespread panic in Timana area under Dibrugarh district of Assam was successfully captured by the forest department on Friday.

The animal was trapped in a cage strategically placed by officials after confirming its presence in the locality.

For several days, the leopard had instilled fear among the villagers, who were afraid to venture out after dark.

On Friday, residents emerged from their homes to witness the captured animal firsthand.

“A leopard had been terrorizing the village for the past few days, making people fearful of leaving their homes at night. Fortunately, we managed to trap the leopard inside the cage. After a medical examination, we will release the leopard back into the wild,” an Assam forest official stated.

The incident highlights the growing man-animal conflict in Assam’s tea garden regions, where leopards are increasingly venturing into human-inhabited areas.
