Siziko Inaba from Japan visited Muga plantations of Dhakuakhana.

North Lakhimpur: An expert from Japan under Sustainable Global Business Breakthrough Ecosystem (SGBBE) visited the Muga plantations of Dhakuakhana on Tuesday.

Siziko Inaba of (SGBBE), a technical cooperation project between India and Japan signed on December 23, 2022, arrived at Dhakuakhana along with a team from NEDFi to have a first-hand account of Muga silk production in traditional form in Dhakuakhana.

Accompanied by Chandra Kanta Das, Marketing Executive of NEDFi, Inaba visited the Muga Seeds Development Project Centre and field studied its plantation.

She also held discussions with Sunil Deori, Project Officer at the centre and renowned Muga researcher Jitul Saikia.

The Japanese expert also interacted with Muga growers of Dhakuakhana and visited Bantowgaon to have a first-hand account of traditional Muga-rearing methods.

It is learnt that Japan will provide financial assistance for Muga production of Dhakuakha through the NEDFi.

It may be mentioned that SGBBE is a technical cooperation project between India and Japan under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) that encourages the development of an ecosystem that generates business innovation across India contributing to the development of an inclusive Indian manufacturing industry.

It will also contribute to the achievement of SDGs 8 and 9.

Meanwhile, Muga growers of Dhakuakhana observed Bor Muga Day on May 19 at Aamkatiya village.

The event was organized by the All Assam Sericulture Farmers Association which was attended by conservationist Devajeet Phukan and Muga rearer Subhas Gogoi, Ranjeet Gogoi etc.

Host plants of Muga silkworms like Som and Suwalu saplings were planted on that occasion by the organizers.
