AGARTALA: Tripura police apprehended five individuals and seized contraband worth Rs 2 lakh during two separate operations in Agartala city.

Sanjit Sen, the officer-in-charge of East Agartala police station, revealed that the operations were initiated following a tip-off received late on Sunday (May 19) night regarding the sale of brown sugar by youths near a school in Agartala, Tripura.

“Upon receiving the information, we promptly moved to the location and apprehended three individuals, including Panna Kar Chowdhury, who were found selling brown sugar. We confiscated two pouches of brown sugar and numerous empty vials from their possession. Subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of two more individuals involved in drug peddling near Agartala Women’s College,” Sen stated.

The apprehended individuals were identified as Panna Kar Chowdhury, Ajay Pal, Arjun Pal, Pritush Sarkar, and Abhijit Saha.

Investigations revealed that they were operating a drug distribution network in and around Agartala city of Tripura.

“We seized 14 grams of brown sugar, 360 vials, two motorcycles, one scooter, and a sum of Indian currency from their possession. The estimated value of the seized drugs amounts to Rs 70,000,” Sen added.

In a parallel operation, Paritosh Das, the officer-in-charge of West Agartala police station, disclosed, “We received information last night about Amit Debbarma allegedly storing a significant quantity of cannabis in a rented house. Following this tip-off, we conducted a raid and confiscated 36 kilograms of cannabis, valued at approximately Rs 1.50 lakh. Amit Debbarma has been apprehended, a case has been registered against him, and he has been produced before the court for police remand.”
