Imphal: A 25-year-old youth was struck by a flash of lightning at Moirang Oksubung paddy field near Loktak Lake in the southern part of Manipur on Saturday, reports said.
Hemam Hemson, 25, a resident of Moirang Oksubung ward number 2 and son of H Hemanta was struck by a bolt of lightning at around 10:15 on Saturday.
His body was found near a pond at the paddy field.
The fury of nature took place when the youth went to the paddy field to help his father’s agricultural works amidst light rainfalls in and around Loktak Lake.
The body of the killed youth was later deposited at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal for post-mortem, the police added.
Notably, for this monsoon season in the state, with the killing of Hemam Hemson, a total of three persons lost their lives when they were struck by lightning to date.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had already announced financial assistance as compensation to those killed by thunderstorms in the state.
