Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) on Monday came down heavily on the BJP-led government both at the centre and the state for ‘betraying’ the people of Assam in all aspects. CPI (ML) all India general secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya launched a scathing attack on BJP and said, “The Centre has betrayed the people of Assam in all aspects.”
Dwelling on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Bhattacharya said that the proposed Bill was against various provisions of the Indian Constitution.

“The proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is an attack on various provisions of the Indian Constitution,” the CPI (ML) leader told Northeast Now.
Addressing the media the CPI (ML) leader said, “The BJP has been doing divisive politics for long time on the basis of religion.”
“The government with its Hindutva ideology has been striving to bring in illegal Hindu Bangladeshis into Assam,” he added.

Bhattacharya accused many BJP leaders including its national president Amit Shah of being involved in corruption.
He alleged the Centre has sidelined the main issues of Assam for which indigenous people of the state have been protesting for a long time.
On National Register of Citizens he said that NRC should not be a tool for exclusion of people from India.
He stressed the need for implementation of historic Assam Accord to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshis.
The communist leader while condemning the Dokmoka lynching incident on June 8 said, “Wherever BJP is in power, you all will hear about such incidents. Mob lynching, cow slaughtering incidents, moral policing incidents are the hallmark of BJP ruled states.”
On perennial flood problem of Assam, he said that the BJP could have found solutions to this recurring problem but won’t do so.
Central committee members Rubul Sarma and Subhash Sen were also present during the press meet.
