IMPHAL: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections the Manipur excise department disposed of locally distilled country liquor worth over Rs 30,000 on Tuesday (April 02).

Polling in the two Lok Sabha constituencies of Manipur are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 19 and April 26.

Acting on specific information regarding the sale of a significant quantity of illicit liquor and reports of bootleggers organizing joint parties, a combined team of Manipur police and excise department officials conducted raids on several illegal liquor outlets at Nambol bazaar in Bishnupur district of Manipur on Monday (April 01) night.

The seized liquor was subsequently disposed of at the respective circle on Tuesday (April 02).

Over 1000 liters of distilled indigenous country liquor were disposed of, and legal action has been initiated in a few cases.

Officials also disclosed the formation of special enforcement teams, each led by two police inspectors, tasked with conducting drives at various locations earmarked for the elections.

Additionally, to ensure the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha election 2024 and uphold its integrity, a 24×7 Excise Control Room and helpline have been established at the office of the State Nodal Officer (Excise) in Manipur.

These measures aim to maintain law and order and prevent any unlawful activities that could undermine the electoral process.
