Imphal: In a significant achievement, security forces arrested one active cadre of the Kuki Liberation Army (KLA), one of the powerful underground outfits demanding the creation of a separate state for the Kuki people in India and Myanmar.
Identified as Minsy Kuki, 31, a leader of the KLA, the security forces arrested him along with large arms and ammunition at a hideout from Bijang Sangaikot village of Manipur’s Churachandpur district sharing borders with Myanmar on Thursday, officials said on Friday.
Based on intelligence input that a few militants managed to escape after extorting from the general people along the inter-districts of Chandel and Churachandpur, the law protectors launched the operation and arrested him.
From his possession, one 7.62 SLR with a magazine, one AK-56 rifle, one Magazine of INSAS 5.56 mm, a BPJ cover with 2 BP Plates, and 216 live ammunition were recovered.
The arrested person and the recovered items were handed over to the concerned police station for further proceeding, the police added.
This is the first major arrest of the KLA cadre of this year.
The KLA was formed in 1992 by Paozangam Letkholunis a terrorist group in Manipur, India.
The KLA’s funding is largely sourced from extortion and collection of ‘protection fees’ in its areas of operation.
