Imphal: A contingent of the Indian Army and para-military forces detected two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and fuse wires in an operation at a hotspot of Saigon village, Manipur’s Tengnoupal district sharing borders with Myanmar on the south on Friday, officials said.

The operation was conducted following a report from the Territorial Army regarding a suspicious bag lying south of Saigon Village, Tengnoupal District.

Promptly, a joint team comprising Assam Rifles along with the Territorial Army was deployed for search operations.

During the search, the team discovered an unidentified bag concealed along a culvert, containing two Improvised Explosive Devices wrapped with cordex.

Following the initial recovery, the area was sanitized to ensure public safety.

The recovered IEDs/WLS were demolished by a Bomb Disposal team in the presence of a police representative.

Additionally, all other items recovered in the operation were later handed over to the Tengnoupal police station for further legal proceedings.

In this operation, no one was arrested but on March 8, 2024, one Sholen (40) of Mission Veng, Moreh, and son of Helmang Haokip was arrested along with IEDs from Asian Highway 1 bypass junction, Moreh.

He was produced before the Special Court NIA Imphal West on Thursday through video conferencing after the completion of the police custody period by a team of Moreh police station in connection with an FIR case registered against him for illegal possession of IEDs.
