IMPHAL: A militants’ training camp has been busted by the troopers of the Assam Rifles in Tengnoupal district of Manipur.
Two teams of Assam Rifles launched a mission to dismantle a suspected training camp of village volunteers and “anti-national elements in Pengpalep village along the Lokchao River in Tengnoupal district of Manipur, bordering Myanmar to the south.
This was informed by concerned officials in Manipur in a statement on Monday (March 18).
The operation, initiated on Sunday (March 17), unfolded seamlessly as both teams meticulously combed the area, establishing cordons and conducting thorough searches, resulting in the busting of the training camp.
A significant cache of weaponry and ammunition, including improvised grenade launchers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), were recovered in the operation.
Despite the insurgents fleeing the camp, evidence of insurgent training was apparent, including a firing range, obstacle training course, and temporary bamboo structures.
In a swift and decisive move, all structures, including unoccupied bunkers, were demolished to prevent future utilization by insurgents.
Furthermore, security forces recovered one 5.56 mm US-made M4 assault rifle and one locally made improvised projectile launcher from Kangpokpi district in Manipur.
The items were retrieved during search operations and area domination exercises conducted in the Manipur district.
The recovered items were subsequently handed over to the concerned police stations in Manipur, as stated in the statement.
