IMPHAL: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scatting attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

Kharge, on Monday (February 05), attacked the BJP-led government in the Centre over the volatile situation in the Northeast state of Manipur.

The Congress president said that it has been over nine months that unabated violence devastated innumerable lives in Manipur.

โ€œBut PM Modi hasnโ€™t had an hour to visit the state,โ€ Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge said.

โ€œWhy?โ€ he questioned.

The Congress chief said that the โ€œBJPโ€™s double engine government has dealt several blows to the people of Manipurโ€.

โ€œHe (PM Narendra Modi) last visited Manipur in February 2022, only to campaign for elections, and now has left the people of Manipur to fend for themselves,โ€ Kharge said.

It may be mentioned here that over 200 people have died and thousands of others have been displaced since the start of ethnic violence in Manipur on May 3 last year.

โ€œAround 50,000 people continue to languish in relief camps in despicable conditions without adequate medical facilities and food. People have already lost everything โ€” their homes, their livelihoods and their belongings. They canโ€™t go anywhere. Their future is bleak,โ€ said Kharge.

โ€œAccording to some reports, over 80 people have died in camps in Churachandpur alone, due to trauma, malnutrition and illness. The Imphal camps are no better.

โ€œWhatever help is being provided in camps has come from collective efforts of good samaritans, NGOs, and not the state government,โ€ Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said.

He added: โ€œWomen and children are suffering because of complete apathy and neglect shown by the BJP.โ€

The Congress president further said: โ€œSince January 1 itself, 10 people have died in renewed violence. Police trainees of two communities are shooting at each other. 7 have been injured.โ€

โ€œOn January 24, we witnessed, how an armed group coerced MPs/MLAs to attend a meeting at heavily guarded Kangla Fort Manipur Congress president was brutally assaulted and tortured,โ€ he said.

โ€œPM Modiโ€™s assurance to the people of Manipur in August 2023, in the Parliament reverberates hollow!โ€

โ€œThere is no normalcy and peace in sight.โ€
