Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently lauded the Guiness World Record of the largest reading activity conducted at SP College in Pune on December 14, 2023

The Guiness World Record was achieved after a total of 3066 parents came forward to read to their children to promote reading culture in the society through storytelling

This literary event was organized by National Book Trust in collaboration with Pune Municipal Corporation with the aim of promoting the habit of reading

It was organized ahead of the Pune Book Festival to be held from December 16 to December 24 at Fergusson College in Pune

Sharing pictures of the event, National Book Trust wrote, “’When citizens Read, the country Leads!’ Taking ahead Hon’ble PM’s vision of India as a reading nation, the citizens of Pune accomplished the Guiness World Record of the largest reading activity on 14 Dec 2023 at SP College, Pune.”

“Celebrating the spirit of books and reading, a total of 3066 parents read to their children, to promote reading culture in the society through storytelling and created a new World record. This event, organised by @nbt_indiain collaboration with @PMCPune, was a precursor to @PuneBookFest (16-24 Dec 2023) at @FergussonPune,” it added

Meanwhile, PM Modi in a post on X, lauded the Guiness World Record of the largest reading activity as ‘a commendable effort to spread the joys of reading.’

“Commendable effort to spread the joys of reading. Compliments to those involved,” he wrote

The practice of storytelling is an age old tradition in India and many ancient stories from the epics and regional folktales have been kept alive and have been able to charm listeners especially children across generations

Storytelling is a great way to arouse the interest of children in reading and thereby help them in enhancing their knowledge
