Assam will have 80 km long Special Economic Zone (SEZ) along the National Highway 31.
Disclosing this in New Delhi on Friday, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the SEZ will be setup from Guwahati to Tihu.
Dispur will make the official announcement in this regard in the forthcoming Global Investors’ Summit in February in Guwahati.

Talking to the newsmen on the sideline of Ambassadors’ Meet in New Delhi, Sonowal reiterated that he has pitched to the Centre to reopen the Stillwell Road.
“I have requested Ministry of External Affairs to take steps to reopen the Stillwell Road,” he said. The Chief Minister met the Ambassadors as a part of promoting Global Investors Summit.

He told to the ambassadors that Assam is a market for 80 percent people from ASEAN countries.
“Last year we have registered Rs 6500 crore investment in Assam,” he said.
Most of the capitals of Southeast Asia are within short flying distances from Guwahati.

It can become the hub of Air operations for entire region. With that vision, we had a detailed discussion with airline operators as part of promoting #AdvantageAssam: Global Investors’ Summit, Sonowal said.

Ambassadors from the ASEAN countries and other important strategic partners of India such as Germany, Turkey, Israel, Afghanistan, Kazakhistan were present in the meeting.
The Ambassadors Meet was preceded by a one-on-one interaction with the Ambassador of Japan, Kenji Hiramatsu.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal invited investments from Japan and offered his total and unconditional support in this regard.
“Had a very fruitful discussion with Hon’ble Ambassador of Japan to India Mr Kenji Hiramatsu on extending cooperation between Assam and Japan in various sectors on the sidelines of Ambassadors’ Meet,” Sonowal said.
The summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and in the run up to it, road shows have already been held in the United States, Canada, UK, Japan, Singapore, Korea and Cambodia.

Road shows have also been held in Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Bengaluru and Chennai are the next stops.
Chandramohan Patowari, Assam Industries and Commerce Minister, was also present during the interactions.
The summit aims to position the state as “India’s Expressway to ASEAN”.
