Along with the rest of the state, World Environment Day was also celebrated at Bajali in Barpeta district of Assam in order to raise global awareness about the importance of the healthy and green environment in the lives of human beings.

The Day was observed by Pathsala Rangali Bihu Sanmilani in collaboration with Green Misson, Prakeiti-ek-prasasta, and Bajali College.
In the programme 300 saplings were distributed among the locals across Pathsala town.
The day’s programme was initiated by brand ambassador for plantation of Assam, Ananda Khataniyar, an avid nature lover and an employee of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI), Pathsala branch, who is the director of Green Mission, Bajali.
The Green Mission also fighting against pollution demanded to ban plastic bags at Bajali sub-division.
During the programme, a massive cycle rally was taken out at Pathsala town by students from various institutions.
Ananda khataniyar inaugurated the colourful awareness procession in presence of Principal of Bajali College, Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta and SDPO Teleswar Saikia along with local public of the area.
In his speech, Khataniar said, “Plastic bags are harmful to human beings. Due to polyethylene waste, millions of animals and birds meet their end every year. People are becoming a prey to various diseases. So plastic should be banned and we are going to campaign to band plastic from village to village.”
Similar awareness meeting was also held in Saderi State Dispensary where a plantation drive and a cleanliness drive was undertaken in the morning on occasion of World Environment Day.
