Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa lauded Indian men’s doubles badminton duo Chirag Shettyand Satwiksairaj Rankireddy for becoming the first Indian pair to reach the top spot in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released recently
The duo achieved this historic feat soon after winning a gold medal in the men’s doubles event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou
They defeated Kim Wonho-Choi Solgyu of the Republic of Korea 21-18, 21-16 in the final to win India’s first ever badminton gold in the Asian Games
Sarma, who is also the president of Badminton Association of India (BAI), in a post on X praised them for achieving a remarkable milestone in their careers through their unwavering commitment and hard work
“Congratulations @Shettychirag04 and @satwiksairaj, for achieving this remarkable milestone through your unwavering commitment and hard work,” he wrote
“You have truly brought immense pride to our nation. Well done!” he added
Popularly known as SatChi , the duo have been making waves across the world with their impressive performances in the field together
They have won five BWF World Tour titles, including the Indian Open, French Open, Swiss Open, Indonesia Open and Korea Open
They've also made history by becoming the first Indians to win the Super 1000 title
The dynamic duo also became first Indian Men's Doubles pair to win Badminton Asia Championships
