Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed about the importance of Sanskrit language in our society on the occasion of World Sanskrit Day

World Sanskrit Day, also known as Vishwa Samskrita Dinam, is celebrated to promote the revival and maintenance of Sanskrit, which is one of the languages believed to be first spoken by people in India

To popularize the language of Sanskrit also known as Language of the Gods, various seminars, competitions revolving around this ancient language are organized on the occasion of World Sanskrit Day

The first World Sanskrit Day was celebrated in 1969. To commemorate World Sanskrit Day, an online campaign #CelebratingSanskrit was started on X (formerly Twitter) on August 31, 2023

Sarma, who also took part in the online campaign #CelebratingSanskrit, emphasized how striving to reviving the use of the mother of Indian languages can help us in connecting to our ancient and rich roots

“Sanskrit, the language of Devtas, is intrinsically linked to Bharatiya culture. It's the mother of many Indian languages,” Sarma wrote in a post on X

“A key part of our social heritage, we should strive to revive the use & application of the language and be a part in #CelebratingSanskrit to connect to our ancient & rich roots,” he added

World Sanskrit Day coincides with the festival of Raksha Bandhan as both of these sacred celebrations are marked on the day of Shravan Poornima (full moon day in the month of Hindu calendar Shravan)

Shravan Purnima, also known as Rishi Parv, was choosen as the beginning of academic year in ancient India

The day starts with the gurus (teachers) tying a new Yajnopavita (sacred thread) on their students’ hands and the latter worshipping them to begin their new curriculum
