Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently went on adventurous bike journey to Pangong Lake which is the highest saltwater lake in the world
Some beautiful images of his bike journey up to the most famous lake in Ladakh have been shared by Gandhi on his Instagram profile
Sharing the images, Gandhi wrote, "On our way to Pangong lake, which my father used to say, is one of the most beautiful places in the world."
Pangong Lake, situated at a height of almost 4,350m, extends up to almost 160 km in length
The lake derives its name from the Tibetan word, “Pangong Tso”, which means “high grassland lake”
Pangong Lake, which seems to be dyed in blue, stand in stark contrast to the arid mountains surrounding it and also appears green and red at different times
One-third area of Pangong Lake lies in India and the other two-thirds is in China
The mystical beauty of Pangong Lake can be truly felt when you go to visit it
The nearest airport is at Kusho Bakula Rinpoche Airport, Leh-Ladakh and the nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi at Jammu
The lake can also be accessed by Srinagar-Leh National Highway No. 1D from Srinagar and Manali-Leh National Highway from Manali. Tourists can avail taxi from both these places and reach the lake in a short while.
