The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to India, Jan Luykx called on Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh at his office chamber on Thursday.
The two leaders discussed about the possibilities of co-operation in trade and investment, food processing, agriculture, tourism, sports and smart city project.
In a tweet in his official Twitter handle, Biren Singh wrote: ‘H E Jan Luykx, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to India and his team called on me at my office today and we discussed on various topics including trade relations and investment, food processing, technology, tourism and sports’.
During the meeting, it is learnt the State Chief Minister has urged the Belgium Ambassador to extend Belgium’s support in developing a football academy in Manipur.
Ambassador Jan Luykx, it is learnt, was surprised to learn that out of 21 footballers selected for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, there were 8 players from the state of Manipur.
Biren Singh also proposed to Jan Luykx about sports exchange programme especially in the field of football as it would help the local sportspersons to get international exposure and training.
Later, Ambassador Jan Luykx assured that he would pursue the proposal of the Chief Minister with different ministries of the Belgium government.
