The CPI (M) state secretary and state Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) president and former minister Manik Dey also condemned the demolition drive against party and front offices allegedly on government land.
While the CPI (M) state secretary Bijan Dhar described the action as ‘totally undemocratic’, Manik Dey said that ‘in other states BJP must also be having offices on government land which have not been demolished’.
Dey said that the State Government should have issued appropriate notices and regularized the matter through a process of democratic dialogue.
‘In a democratic set-up such arbitrary action is totally unacceptable and we will keep on protesting the dictatorial demolition drive’, said Manik Dey.
The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Birajit Sinha while protesting the government decision organized a demonstration against the demolition drive launched by the district administration in Agartala’s motor stand area and in other parts of the State.
A sit-in programme was also organized for a few hours in front of the DM office to register their protest.
Interacting with media on the side lines of the protest demonstration former MLA and senior Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) leader Dipak Roy said that the ‘Tripura Motor Karmi Damity’ office destroyed by the district administration was fifty years old.
Roy alleged that they were neither given any notice in advance, nor given a chance to remove their furniture and papers.
The PCC president Birajit Sinha also condemned the demolition drive without appropriate notice as ‘dictatorial and autocratic’, adding that Congress will continue to protest this ‘unilateral and arbitrary action’.
