The Biswanath district committee of the 15 No Rashtriya Ghai Path Suraksha Aikya Mancha (NH 15 Protection United Forum) has decided to block the ongoing construction work of the four-laning of National Highway in Sonitpur district.

Informing this, the Mancha leaders during a press conference at Biswanath Chariali Press Club on Wednesday, expressed concern over the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned towards releasing compensation to the affected people of undivided Sonitpur, who had to lose their lands due to four-laning of the National Highway.

As per reports, the affected people of undivided Sonitpur district have not received adequate compensation yet which the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had to provide at the time of land acquisition.

The Mancha leaders said, “The authority (NHAI) has not provided adequate compensation to the affected people of the undivided Sonitpur district till now.”

The Mancha threatened that if the NHAI fails to release the compensation to the affected people on time, they would lead the affected people in taking back their land on May 7, 2018.

The Mancha also stated that they have decided to block the construction of the four-laning of the National Highway from Jamugurihat to Gohpur in undivided Sonitpur district.

The leaders of the Mancha alleged that the authority has released only a tiny amount as compensation to many affected people against land acquisition.

They also said, “We will continue our protest until we get adequate compensation. The National Highway Authority of India has neglected us while they have given full compensation to the people of Dibrugarh district, who also lost their land due to acquisition for four-laning.”

Locals also alleged that during monsoon, the subways along the National Highway become muddy and are inundated due to improper constriction work for which the daily activities of the common people get affected.
