October 27, 2022 is one of the saddest days in the Assamese film industry as it has lost one of its brightest stars Nipon Goswami

The 80-year-old veteran actor who made a pioneering contribution in the Assamese film industry with his brilliant acting breathed his last in the wee hours today

He passed away due to heart related issues issues at Nemcare Super Speciality Hospital in Guwahati

The actor’s health detoriated on the day of Diwali following which he was rushed to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away on Thursday

Born on September 3, 1942 in Tezpur’s Kolibari, Goswami was a part of many Bollywood films too

His father Chandradhar Goswami was an actor and his mother Nirupama Goswami was a singer

Goswami , who did his schooling and graduation from Tezpur , studied at the Film and Television Institute of India

He made his debut in the Assamese film industry as a child artist in the movie Piyali Phukan in 1957

Goswami made his mark as the lead actor for the first time in the Assamese movie Sangram released in 1968

Besides movies, Goswami also played popular roles in mobile theatres and Assamese TV serials

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that he ‘was blessed to be in the presence of one of the best actors of Assam while acting in the film ‘Kakadeuta Nati Aur Hati’ as a child artist’

Goswami , who is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, will forever remain a shining star of the Assamese film industry
