Fifty five gram panchayats in Tripura would be covered on ‘Ujjwala Diwas’ and each panchayat would be given 100 LPG connections under scheme to the eligible consumers including the families of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) under BPL categories of families, forest dwellers under Forest Right Act and families under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY).
This was announced by Tripti Choraria, assistant manager (LPG) of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Agartala Press Club on Saturday afternoon.
Choraria also said that LPG panchayat will be organized in 15,000 villages across the country by creating a special observation day and that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas through its PSU oil marketing companies, intends to promote amongst the rural consumers, the safe and sustained use of LPG through peer group interactions on a large scale.
Notably, as part of ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’, the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is going to celebrate ‘Ujjwala Diwas’ on April 20 next across the country to provide LPG connections to eligible beneficiaries.
“The Ujjwala Diwas will promote the enhanced target of enrolling eight crore LPG beneficiaries and connections will be provided to eligible beneficiaries on April 20 during the LPG panchayat,” said Tripti Choraria, adding that altogether 15,000 panchayats of the country would be covered on Ujjwala Diwas.
She further said that during the LPG panchayat apart from experience sharing, aimed at safe and sustained usage of LPG and all out efforts will also be made to maximize customer enrolment.
Each panchayat will be targeting participation by 500 women with a goal of enrolling at least 100 new LPG beneficiaries, added Choraria.
