The All Assam Studentsโ Union has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs intervention into the matter of pollution of the Brahmaputra river water and termed it as a serious natural calamity.
Expressing serious concern over the issue, the studentsโ body also demanded the state government to put pressure on the centre in this regard.
The AASU reaction came following Assam governmentโs announcement that the Brahmaputra river water is not fit for drinking.
Terming the Brahmaputra as the lifeline of Assam, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said both the government at the centre and the state should take necessary step to save the Brahmaputra.
Meanwhile the union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said the government has been continuously tracking and assessing the Siang River flowing pattern from day one. Pointing out that the concerns of the people are genuine he twitted โthe cause of water becoming muddy and black beyond Mc Mahon line is being ascertained.โ
