The Forum Against Citizenship Act Amendment Bill has called for a symbolic sit-in protest demonstration in Guwahati on Thursday.
The three hours sit-in protest against the Citizenship Act Amendment Bill is being organized at the Ganesh Mandir field at Dispur Press Club premises from 11 am on Thursday.
The Forum Against Citizenship Act Amendment Bill has called all concerned citizens, intellectuals, eminent journalists, artistes and litterateurs, among others to join the sit-in protest on Thursday and make it a success.
The Forum Against Citizenship Act Amendment Bill in a strongly worded pamphlet has warned the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Citizenship Act Amendment Bill not to divide Assam on communal lines.
It further urged the JPC to visit Assam and discuss with all the stakeholders opposing the Citizenship Act Amendment Bill.
The Forum further said, the future and destiny cannot be determined by sitting in the national capital.
The Forum has been demanding scrapping of the Citizenship Act Amendment Bill as it claims that the Bill is a conspiracy to grant citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis.
The Forum has also warned all concerned not to gamble with citizenship issue and create differences among linguistic communities of the Assam.
The forum also demanded immediate removal of the chairman, Rajendra Agrawal, of the JPC who had allegedly making public comments on granting of citizenship on religious lines.
