The two-day quarter-final league match between Nowgaon and Lakhimpur of the Nuruddin Ahmed Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament has been evenly poised on the first day at Mangaldai on Monday when in reply to Nowgaon’s first innings total of 199 runs, Lakhimpur scored 158 runs with two wickets in hand at the end of the day.
Put into bat by Lakhimpur after winning the toss, Nowgaon scored 199 runs with Anupam Hazarika scoring 37 runs, Debojit Barua 37 runs, Ashok Krishna Saini 35 runs and Bhashkar Konwar 32 runs had their notable contributions.
Hrishikesh Borah (3/43), Hafizuddin Ahmed (2/10) and Raju Pegu (2/52) were the most successful bowlers for Lakhimpur.
In reply, Lakhimpur with some responsible batting display from Hafizuddin Ahmed (50) and Nipan Bora (41) scored 158 runs for the loss of eight wickets and still need another 42 runs to take a vital first innings lead.
Dhiraj Goswami (4/47) and Bichitra Barua (3/59) were the wreckers for Nowgaon in the Lakhimpur innings.
