Apple unveils new operating system iOS 16, discontinues support for several devices

Apple iOS 16 adds widgets to the lock screen, improves notifications and new features to Messages

It has Apple Wallet support for handling digital IDs and Pay Later

iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X from 2017 and later models will be the only supported devices

Older devices that ran version 15 including iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, the original SE and the iPod touch (7th gen) will no longer be supported

Along with this, iPadOS 16 was also introduced

iPadOS 16 improves multitasking capabilities and full support for external displays on M1-powered iPads

The new version supports all iPad Pro versions, iPad Airs (3rd gen+), vanilla iPad (5th gen and later) and iPad mini (5th gen+).

Support for iPad Air 2 (from 2014, nearly 8 years old now) and iPad mini 4 (2015) has been dropped
