This will be followed up by the Minister’s meeting with the ADC’s education executive member Rajendra Reang in which the condition of 80 schools, facing acute shortage of teachers will be discussed to work out a solution.

Official sources in the Education Department said that there are altogether 3205 teachers in schools run in tribal dominated ADC areas but the record of attendance of these teachers is quite disturbing as most of them remain absent from schools most of the days during the academic year.

The problem is further aggravated by the uneven distribution of teachers; while in schools in Agartala town and other urban centres, there are abaundant teachers while in rural and hilly areas, there is a severe shortage of teachers.
