Highlighting yet another case of lawlessness spreading in the State, two junior college girls were allegedly molested and a boy was assaulted by two labourers of a stone mahal on the bank of river Kulsi near Teliapara under Panery Police Station in Udalguri district on Tuesday evening.

Proving the sheer fearlessness of the perpetrators, the culprits even called their friends who, armed with sticks, gathered before the victim college girls and the youth being rescued by locals.

The incident took place when the victim girls were returning home on their bicycle when they called their friend, 23-year-old Mustakul Ali for help as their bicycle mal-functioned in the area.

Mustakul, who was also jostled, narrated that the accused besides manhandling and molesting the girls, also passed on lewd remarks, while the distraught girls kept on begging to be spared.

The culprits who have been identified as 34-year-old Basanta Rabha, a resident of Sastrapara under Harisinga Police Station and 30-year-old Rajiv Boro, a resident of Uttar Murmela under Panery Police Station were taken under police custody on Wednesday vide Panery PS case No 24/18 under sections 341/294/376/511/34 of IPC.

They culprits were produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Udalguri, which sent them to judicial custody on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Panery and Tangla units of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have demanded strict action against the culprits.
