Tripura workshop

Tripura Biodiversity Board organized a regional consultative workshop on bio-diversity to gather views of different stakeholders and line departments on Tuesday in Agartala.

Funded by the National Biodiversity Authority, the bio-diversity workshop was inaugurated by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) of Tripura Forest Department, Dr A K Gupta by lighting the lamp in presence of other dignitaries at the Pragnya Bhawan in the state capital.

The main objective of the workshop was to sensitize the stakeholders, explain their activities towards preserving the biodiversity through sustainable livelihood, development and to appreciate the activities of concerned line-departments besides making them aware on legal aspects of biodiversity.

Various speakers delivered their lecture on the occasion explaining the importance of conserving biological diversity to save the ecosystem and the Earth.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest of Tripura, Dr Atul Kumar Gupta said, “Biodiversity is not only about certain plants and animals, it is about entire natural resources found in the earth, water, other minerals, domestic animals and plants. That’s why the involvement of all the line department is very crucial. This workshop is aimed at getting the views of various departments about what they are doing towards the conservation of biodiversity in their own department.”

“What is their planning and policies and how their departments are linked and integrated for the biodiversity conservation. All these inputs shall be collated and collected and drafted into a national report on biodiversity. This is a mandatory provision for India being a signatory to the Biological Diversity and every year India has to produce a national report and this is going to be the sixth report on Biodiversity,” he further added.

Northeast India is considered as a hotspot of biodiversity and Tripura is among the top in the list.
