The National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources situated in Haryana has incorporated a particular breed of cow and the duck variety found in Assam in its list of livestock.
According to sources close to the bureau, proper researches were conducted before enlisting them as certified livestock.
Sources also revealed that the nutritional value of the milk of the indigenous variety of the cow found in Assam was quite high.
The bureau also gave due recognition for the nutritional value of the duck meat and the egg of the common duck variety of Assam.
The bureau has enlisted the cow variety as ‘lakhimi‘ (0200 LAKHIMI 03041) in the list of Indian cattle at number 41.
Similarly, the indigenous duck variety of Assam is the only duck enlisted in the website of the bureau under the name ‘pati’ (0200 PATI 11001).
Moreoever, two variety of chicken found in Assam also finds their name in the website of the bureau.
In the Chicken breed list, those two varieties of Assamese chicken as ‘daothigir’ (INDIA CHICKEN 0200 DAOTHIGIR 12006) and ‘miri’ (INDIA CHICKEN 0200 MIRI 12012)
On the other hand, in the list of pig breeds, the variety of pig with the name ‘doom’ (INDIA PIG 0200 DOOM 09006) from Assam finds its place in the website of National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources.
