In a meeting organized in Kokrajhar to discuss issues related to women and children in the wake of rise in cases of crime against women and children, stress was given on generating awareness among the people.
The meeting, held on Saturday in the conference hall of the office of Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, was chaired by DC Niranjan Baruah.
In his speech, Deputy Commissioner Baruah expressed his concern over the growing incidents of crimes against women like molestation, rape and kidnapping across the State.
In this connection, the DC assured of holding awareness meetings at village level involving Gaon Burhas, NGOs, members of different social organisations and government departments concerned.
Attending the meeting, Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajen Singh informed about the Assam government’s decision to set up special women cell in every police station and fast-track court to ensure speedy trial of the cases related to crimes against women in every district headquarters in the State.
Singh also informed about the order issued to the Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of all the police stations of the district to take strict action in all cases of crimes against women and to initiate speedy investigation.
In this regard, the Kokrajhar SP requested all the members of the society to share any information regarding crimes against women first to the local police or any district official so that immediate action can be taken in the right time.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) KK Gupta, COs of Kokrajhar, Gossaigaon, Bhawraguri, Bagribari, senior citizens Dr Mangalsing Hazowary, PC Jha, leaders of Kokrajhar district BSU, ABMSU, BSS, GSS and MYM and AABYSF.
