Instead of January 24 like previous years, Republic Day celebrations from this year onwards would begin from January 23.
This decision was taken by the central government to include Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary in the Republic Day celebrations.
“This is in line with the Modi government’s focus on celebrating important aspects of our history and culture,” reports quoted sources as saying.
Earlier, the BJP-led central government had announced that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary would be celebrated as Parakram Divas.

Subhas Chandra Bose, also called Netaji, was born on January 23, 1897.
Chandra Kumar Bose, the grandnephew of Netaji Bose, told India Today, “The people of India appreciate the efforts made by the NDA government under the leadership of Narendra Modi ji. But what is more important in today’s India, and I have written in this regard to PM Modi, is that we must implement Netaji’s inclusive ideology. He was the only leader who could unite the people irrespective of their religion as Bharaiyas.”
“To really honour Subhash Chandra Bose, one should understand his ideology and implement it. Today divisive politics is tearing the nation apart. The Republic Day parade will be meaningless if we don’t have a Netaji tableau in it,” he said.
“India is breaking up again. Divisive politics must stop. We must have communal harmony,” Chandra Kumar Bose added.
