Three men have been arrested by Hajo Police who allegedly posed as Crime Branch sleuths and kidnapped a person.
A police source said that the men had kidnapped a person named Muktar Ali from Hajo recently.
They had claimed to be from the Crime Branch of the Assam Police and threatened him into their van with an aim for ransom.
The three men had called the family of the abducted person and demanded Rs 50000 but the family negotiated and paid Rs 28 thousand to the men.

After the abductors released Ali his family called the police and informed them about the incident.
The police based on their investigation came across three men in Jalukbari and arrested them from a house near the AEC campus.
On further investigation, the police identified the three men as Dipjyoti Thakuria, Narayan Baruah and Asmidul Ali.

The police also recovered an air pistol, a dummy pistol, two walkie talkies and some cash.
They have been taken into custody for further investigation.
