A person accused of being involved in drug peddling surrendered before the Biswanath Police on Sunday in fear of ending up in an encounter.
The accused was identified as Pankaj Gupta and according to the police he had recently fled from police custody.
He was arrested on charges of being involved in illegal drug trade but he somehow managed to escape from the police station.
He had named several persons of being involved in the trade as per the police.
He was on the run since last Tuesday but one other person that he had named was arrested on Friday.
The person arrested by police on Friday was named Shiva Bhuyan and he was later injured in a police firing while he attempted to escape police custody.
Pankaj Gupta after surrendering claimed that he was just a drug addict.
He used to purchase drugs from Shiva Bhuyan but he had no connection with peddling.
Earlier a suspected drug supplier accused the police of shooting him at point-blank range and trying to frame the entire situation as an encounter in Assam’s Biswanath.
The accused person speaking to the media alleged that the police had shot him from point-blank range.
The accused named, Shiva Bhuyan claimed that after he was arrested on charges of being involved in contraband drug dealing, the police told him that they would take him for a medical test.
“However, while on our way, I was blindfolded and then one of the policemen shot me on my leg while others held me tightly”, he added.
