The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) in Nagaland has temporarily suspended its first phase agitation demanding Shamator district till further notice.ย 

In a notification, YTC executive chairman Yย Makezhoย also said resumption of operation ofย Likimroย Hydroelectric Power Plant and the entry of visitors or researchers to Mt. Saramati,ย Fakimย Wildlife Sanctuary, stone caves at Salomi and Mimi will be allowed.ย

However, the council warned that it will resume its democratic agitation till justice is delivered if the state government fails toย fulfilย the assurance at the earliest.ย 

Shamatorย is currently underย Tuensangย district of Nagaland.ย 

The council, earlier, had said that it demanded upgradation ofย Shamatorย additional deputy commissionerโ€™s headquarters as a district since 2003.ย

It said that it has submitted several representations and reminder letters to the state government.ย 

On December 18 last year, the Nagaland government created three more districts, bringing the total number of districts in the state to 15.ย ย 

The newly created districts areย Tseminyu,ย Niulandย andย Chumukedima.ย ย 

Whileย Tseminyuย district had been formed by bifurcating Kohima district,ย Niulandย andย Chumukedimaย districts were carved out of Dimapur district.ย
