Assam: Man from Delhi arrested in Guwahati for 'smuggling' gold

Two persons were arrested in Bokajan with a consignment of gold worth Rs 7.7 lakh allegedly hidden inside their private parts.

The police said that they have concealed the gold (three bars) inside their private parts.

As per reports, the persons were arrested based on specific input about the movement of two suspected smugglers.

Accordingly, the police intercepted a Guwahati-bound night bus near the Khatkhati area.

On raiding the bus, the duo was arrested with the gold bars.

The persons arrested by the police were identified as Induwala Tongrang and Ramesh Seram. Both residents of Manipur.

Ramesh Seram after being arrested confessed that they were involved in smuggling the said gold to Guwahati and it was being brought from Imphal in Manipur.

The accused claimed that they were unemployed and had no option but to be engaged in such activities.

He also claimed that the person in Guwahati who was supposed to buy the gold from them was to pay them Rs 15000.
