As many as seven CPI-M leaders in Tripura have been granted bail by West Tripura district court in connection with a COVID norms violation case.ย 

The case against the seven CPI-M leaders relates to alleged breach of COVID protocols during a political rally back in September last year.ย

Among those who have been granted bail are: deputy leader of opposition in Tripura Assembly โ€“ Badal Chowdhury, former minister Manik Dey and former MP Shankar Prasad Dutta.ย 

Manik Dey told the court that the cases filed against the CPI-M leaders were โ€˜falseโ€™ andย the BJP-led Tripura government is trying to harass the opposition party leaders.ย 

โ€œWe protested demanding basic amenities for people. The government failed to fulfil the basic needs of people. They are being put behind bars if they protested. This is anarchy,โ€ Dey alleged.ย
