The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has secured an emphatic victory at the Chandigarh Municipal elections.

The AAP, which contested the Chandigarh municipal elections for the first time, has emerged as the largest party.

The AAP won 14 of 35 wards delivering a massive blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In fact, BJP’s sitting mayor lost to the AAP candidate – Damanpreet Singh.

On the other hand, the ruling BJP won 12 wards, while Congress bagged 8, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) won in 1 ward.

This victory of the AAP in the Chandigarh municipal elections comes just a couple of months ahead of the crucial Punjab Assembly elections.

“This victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is a sign of the coming change in Punjab,” said AAP leader andDelhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

“People of Chandigarh have given us a grand welcome. I want to thank every voter and party worker for this,” Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia said.
