The Guwahati Traffic Police has suspended the licences of 47 people for drunk driving on Friday night.
The traffic police department in a tweet said, “Drive Against Drunken Driving A total of 47 people were intercepted for drunk driving last night. Their licences are being suspended & a Fine of ?10,000/- being imposed on them.”
Earlier on Friday, the traffic police said that to ensure that no accidents take place during the New Year, the police will be on strict vigil to track down drunk drivers in the city.
Traffic police officials have said that they have taken a strategic plan to prevent accidents in the city and specifically during the new year.

Special measures and steps are being taken to prevent reckless driving and overspeeding cases.
Apart from that, a special drive has also been initiated to prevent cases of drunk driving.

The police are also enforcing helmet laws in the city to ensure that every motorcyclist including the rider and the pillion wears helmets.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered the police department to ensure that no accidents take place during the New Year celebrations.
Earlier the police intercepted 26 people for drunk driving.
These 26 people too had their licenses canceled and had to face a fine of Rs 10000 each.
