A total of 38 cases of Omicron variant have been recorded in 6 states and 2 Union territories in India till date.
According to a media report, Omicron cases in the country increased to 38 after Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Kerala reported their first infections.
The report said on Sunday, Maharashtra and Karnataka reported one each case of the latest Covid19 variant.
It has been reported that Omicron variant has been detected in states including Maharashtra (18), Rajasthan (9), Karnataka (3), Gujarat (3), Kerala (1) and Andhra Pradesh (1) and Union territories of Delhi (2) and Chandigarh (1).
The IGI Airport authorities in Delhi said the capacity for testing of Covid19 new variant Omicron has been updated in the airport to ensure smooth flow of the international arrival process.

This came after chaotic scenes were witnessed at the IGI Airport in the national capital due to new international travel guidelines.
Earlier, Delhi International Airport Limited claimed that 20 dedicated testing counters were set up.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) said the new Covid19 Omicron variant has been found in 63 countries and it will surpass the Delta variant in spreading speed.

The WHO also said it is not clear yet why the new variant is spreading so fast and that the Omicron variant might reduce the effectiveness of Covid19 vaccines.
But it is less dangerous than Delta, the WHO added.
