West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit Meghalaya before Christmas with the aim to increase the presence of the Trinamool Congress in the Northeastern state.
As per reports, Bengal chief minister Banerjee might reach Assam on December 20 and offer puja at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.
She will then travel by road to Shillong the next day, the party source said.
According to a report, Banerjee, who is also the chief of the TMC, will oversee the party work in Shillong.
She will hold meetings with TMC leaders of Meghalaya including former chief minister Mukul Sangma, who has recently switched over to the party from Congress.
The TMC got a boost in the northeastern state after the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Assembly; Mukul Sangma along with 11 Congress legislators joined it in November
